Spell of Intrigue

The Dance of Gods #2

by Mayer Alan Brenner

Any interesting scheme will have more than a single motivation. Were they pawns in the power games of gods or players in a no-spells-barred contest between mortals and masters?

Spell of Fate

The Dance of Gods #3

by Mayer Alan Brenner

As Maximillian the Vaguely Disreputable comes close to solving the laws of conserving magic and tapping the gods' power base, the Creeping Sword is drawn more deeply into the fight between warring deities.

Spell of Catastrophe

The Dance of Gods #1

by Mayer Alan Brenner

For a change, Max was not actually on the run, which is to say that he didn't think anyone in particular was after him. Of course, his perception (which happened to be wrong) did not materially change the situation....

Spell of Apocalypse

The Dance of Gods #4

by Mayer Alan Brenner

Whose magic will prove mightiest in this final showdown between gods, mortals, and other beings?

these are a really wonderful series of sword and sorcery! you need to read them in order, since they form a continuous story. i didn't and still enjoyed the heck out of them.
