&lt;p&gt;Connell was one of the best-known American short story writers of his time and his stories appeared in the Saturday Evening Post and Collier's Weekly. Connell had equal success as a journalist and screenwriter. He was nominated for an Academy Award for best original story for 1941's Meet John Doe.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt; He died of a heart attack in Beverly Hills, California on November 22, 1949 at the age of fifty-six.&lt;/p&gt;</biography>
