Algernon Blackwood's writing style is beautiful to read, it is just a shame that the story is dull as dishwater. I don't really know who the target audience for this book was. It is above the reading age of the children that it is about and would send any adult to sleep. Perhaps I lack the level of belief and spirituality that the author tries to evoke.
