Robert E. Howard's contribution to Lovecraft's mythos. An American adventurer named Clarney and his Afghan companion are searching for the black city of Kara-Shehr spoken of in the Necronomicon of the mad Arab etc., etc. The story opens with them ambushed in the desert and chased to a horrible city in the wasteland where a being that lived before men still lives.
A good little bogeyman story, better than a lot of Lovecraft's because of Howard's greater skill at descriptive writing.
