I found this to be a three-page story padded out to five times that length by ponderous description. The photo also has the birthmark on the wrong cheek.
A brilliant scientist marries the town beauty, then becomes obsessed with the hand-shaped birthmark on her left cheek. He infects her with his revulsion, and they decide that he will use his brilliance to remove the mark.
The lab assistant was a nice character.
