This is the book that made me an engineer. I first read it as a 10 year old kid, and a printed copy of this has never left my side and these days an eBook copy. While it may appear old-fashioned and slow, it is anything but that. As you read the book, you don't just get entertained - you learn. And the end parts of the book provide plenty of surprise as well.

This is an entertaining but wordy and rather strangely plotted book. Despite the fact that the characters' experience is characterize by ease instead of strife, the story is not boring. Usually you would expect characters to face setback after setback, but no, not in The Mysterious Island. In this book, the characters meet success after success. It's an interesting book and well worth a read, though it may take a couple weeks to get through it.
