Interesting, if cosmologically incorrect, story of astronomers who, by calculating all the motions of the stars, galaxies, etc., come to see that the universe is rotating about a fixed object. Because they can track the rotation, they can predict the location and distance of the object, and using the speed of light, can predict when its light would reach us. (Black holes were unknown at the time.) And it does, with very bad effects.
