The novel is fun... but it definitely dates itself, not just in the technology (though set hundreds of years in the future, people are still using slide rules) but also in some of the ideas. Basically, the book reads as a justification for colonialism. Its very one sided in the sense that it ignores the alien perspective all together (even though the aliens are a very important part of the book). Still it is a fun read.
