Enthralling novel!
It says above "precursor of the modern mystery & suspense novels". I was not prepared for the writing. Written in 1st person, but by several different people, I was amazed at the ability to believably adopt the point of view, etc. of a trusted family servant, a judgmental spinster, a young lady, etc.
I couldn't put it down!
