Joshua Slocum bought a rotting sailboat that was sitting in someone's pasture, redesigned and rebuilt it, then literally (and literarily) sailed it around the world with a crew of one: himself. This book is the rather straight-faced and extremely humble account of that journey. No histrionics, no bragging, no reflections on what a marvelous thing he was doing (a thing no one else had ever done before), just a simple, old-fashioned travel narrative. A remarkable book.
