Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk

To read Billy Lynn is to engage in a pure, tactile state of sensory overload. You feel this story with your whole body — all the adrenaline, tension and nausea.

It is, as advertised, extraordinary writing, but essentially fiction for non-fiction readers.

Fountain’s vivid, fluid prose mostly overcomes this inertia although his adroit metaphors and similes are sometimes piled as thickly as one of the Cowboys’ refulgent buffets.

Billy Lynn is an exhilarating read, and convincingly – if belatedly – damning of Bush's America.
