Heir to A Confederacy of Dunces and Being There, Panorama City is a wildly entertaining and surreptitiously moving novel about a self-described "slow absorber" named Oppen Porter, who records everything he thinks his unborn son will find useful in becoming a man of the world.

Editorial reviews (3 reviews)

Much of the pleasure in “Panorama City” comes from watching Oppen synthesize all this wisdom and folly to pass it along to his unborn son before time runs out.

"Panorama's" spent quality, its ruminative room, recalls some of the best of the mid-century South, New Orleans specifically, "The Moviegoer" and "A Confederacy of Dunces," particularly.

This is a book that requires a certain devotion to its narrator, and Oppen Porter's insights don't quite command it. Like many nice guys circling the L.A. periphery, Oppen Porter feels as if he's just passing through.
