The murder scenes aren't too detailed to really ick out a cozy reader but they're enough to satisfy fans of the darker stuff as well, which makes this a series that I think appeals to a broad spectrum of mystery fans.

While the twists and turns of the case are extremely interesting and keep the pages turning rapidly, the real star of the book is the ghostly omnipresence of the long-gone Crystal Palace itself...and the popular music scene that developed around the area in the latter half of the 20th century.

Another solid outing for the reliable Crombie (No Mark Upon Her, 2012, etc.), who turns a judicious eye on secrets that can overwhelm what they’re meant to protect despite the best intentions.
