Passed from character to character, the thread of Martin’s story at times becomes so thin and frayed that it’s sometimes difficult to grasp.

While the storyline can come across as somewhat disjointed and a trifle confusing at times, the writing is skillful and the prose is often heartbreakingly beautiful.

The journey ends up being emotionally rewarding.
