The historical aspects of the book are wonderfully wrought and seemingly expertly researched.

Waldman’s book employs a talismanic object as a silent witness to history’s atrocities. Perhaps because of this, despite the novel’s admirable narrative velocity, the quietest moments of “Love and Treasure” are its most powerful.

Waldman reaches thoughtfully into an epic sweep of complex issues related to identity, home, dislocation and feminism, and illuminates her ideas through the critical junctures of the journeys of both the pendant and the painting.
