Let me just start off by saying that the writing style is very good. I would love to read other works by this author.
That said, I really couldn't bring myself to finish this particular story. The reason for this is the main character. I just couldn't connect to her as a protagonist. She's selfish, manipulative, and the casual heartlessness in how she treats her slave--unintentional though her cruelty might be--left me feeling queasy. Interesting to see things from the zombie's perspective, and hilarious that said zombie was a chef in life and very discerning about what parts of the living he ate. Zombie rampage scenes were well written. I was on edge wondering who the heck to root for. The humans or the undead? Add to that a love story between the main zombie character and the main human character, and this winds up being an interesting and fun read.
