Enthralling novel!
It says above "precursor of the modern mystery & suspense novels". I was not prepared for the writing. Written in 1st person, but by several different people, I was amazed at the ability to believably adopt the point of view,etc. of a trusted family servant, a judgmental spinster, a young lady, etc.
I couldn't put it down!

The descriptions says this is "considered to be the first mystery novel". ?Written in 1859? Well, I was surprised. It was enthralling. I couldn't put it down. It also was interesting to see the viewpoints of the people of that time.

DEFINITELY a must read for mystery lovers!
