A story about Apollo 20 landing on the dark side of the moon, and what the astronauts find there.
I wonder if the author knows that the name of one of the characters - Pish - has a meaning in the Scottish dialect of English? It means rubbish or excrement.
As to the book, not bad. I felt that some of the characters re-appeared for no apparent reason, and that the author's religious opinions leaked into the text. But apart from that, very readable.
A good read, well worth your time.
Well written, if a tad melodramatic at time.
As a Brit I felt my hackles rise (read the book and you'll understand).
One point I do not agree with Cory is his Bookstore dedication for Chapter 2. I no longer use Amazon and here is why - http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2010/01/amazon-macmillan-an-outsiders.html
This story enough to give you nightmares.
Of course I'm old enough (in my fifties) to remember life without the net. Perhaps it's time to return to such "golden days".
a world where the secret police are everywhere and monks earn their crust by doing data analasys.
Into this Orwelian nightmare steps an innocent - Lawrence - who managed to survive growing up by running away from the "real" world and becoming a monk.
The story is about Lawrence really growing up.
Worth the read? Most definately.
the ending reminds me of what happened for real in "Second Life" where a software geek created a "printer" that let "residence" create anything that they wanted (thereby threatening the "economy" of that virtual world).
If you enjoy reading this short story, I'd recommend books (the sort that come in paper form) by Ken Macleod (such as "Execution Channel" or "Night Sessions").
mad little story about a post appocolypse US where religion has taken full control (so not so mad there).
It was the first of Cory's works that I read, and I've continued reading his stuff, so it must be okay (and have even bought one of his works in paperback, on the strength of this story).
Out of five I'd give it three, so it's worth a few hours of your time to read.
odd little story, although I quite enjoyed reading it.
It's about a boy growing up in the US in a small town at the turn of the century (1900), who goes on journeys to an alternate future (1975).
I felt that the end rather pettered out, but for all that, well worth the read.
