This novella is the first in an ongoing series. It is quite entertaining on its own, but also serves as an introduction of the characters and ideas that continue to develop as the plot thickens. The second book, "Dobhriathar," further explores the governor who ran away from her space colony, in fact. These books combine fast-paced, intricately woven plots with intelligent sci-fi themes that are both fascinating and horrifying. Pierce is sort of like Orson Scott Card meets H.P. Lovecraft. Great series so far, and I look forward to reading more!
