This is work that I haven't see for over 30 years. Found it in a trunk when I was throwing a lot of stuff out. Old essays, paintings, manuscripts etc. I don't think there was anything special about the times I was writing about. But who knows? I think everyone's perception is that they lived during turning points in history. Of course, the Greeks knew better.
