Biography 


Ashim Shanker has never been, and probably isn't yet, but certainly aspires to be. Surely, one day he MIGHT be, but there is no guarantee he WILL be. He was disappointed to find out yesterday upon waking that he still wasn't, nor would he be for the rest of the day. But still, today has not yet passed. So we must wait and see. In the meantime, we cannot rule out the possibility, however negligible, that he will have been at some point in the distant horizon. Yet, for the present, we are still faced with the bleak and disheartening probability that he never was, nor shall ever be. Whatever comes of such confusing matters, he nonetheless appreciates the iThe son of Indian immigrants, Ashim Shanker was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University, and worked in New York in the wireless communications industry briefly before relocating to Tokyo, Japan, where he was employed for 11 years as a teacher and a content planner for textbooks and learning software. Working 3-4 different jobs at any given time, he managed to write and independently publish his first novel, "Don't Forget to Breathe," in 2008. Upon finishing, he decided to continue the narrative as a series entitled "Migrations," and proceeded to write its second installment, "Only the Deplorable" (2013). This was quickly followed by his first book of poems and short stories, "Sinew of the Social Species" (2014). Currently, Shanker's books are read in over 80 countries.

His experiences teaching in international and public school environments have contributed to his fervent advocacy for systemic reform in global educational policy and delivery. Hoping in the future to devise educational environments which offer greater outlets for exploratory learning and intercultural understanding, he is currently pursuing graduate study in International Education Policy at Harvard University. He is also currently working on the third installment of the "Migrations" series. In his own words: "Writing has always been both the catalyst and the fuel for my external endeavors. My only hope is that it will remain so." Ashim Shanker currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.this trifling wannabe.
