  • Don Lee is the author of six previous works of fiction, including the short story collection, Yellow, which won the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Members Choice Award from the Asian American Writers' Workshop.


  • Lee's novels have also won numerous awards, including: The Collective, which won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature from the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association; Wrack and Ruin, which was a finalist for the Thurber Prize; and Country of Origin, which won an American Book Award, the Edgar Award for Best First Novel, and a Mixed Media Watch Image Award for Outstanding Fiction.

  • Lee's stories have also been published in numerous magazines/journals and have won both an O. Henry Award and a Pushcart Prize.


  • He also has contributed essays & book reviews to: LitHub, Electric Literature, the Stranger, the Boston Globe, Harvard Review, Boston magazine, the Village Voice, etc.


  • Lee is a third-generation Korean American. He spent the majority of his childhood in Tokyo and Seoul. In Tokyo, he attended the American School in Japan. He received his BA in English literature from UCLA and his MFA in creative writing and literature from Emerson College.


  • He teaches in the MFA program at Temple University, and in 2019, he was a fiction faculty member at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference.


  • Lee has done readings and lectures at various colleges and universities over the years, including: University of Houston, Wellesley College, Gettysburg College, etc.


  • Lee has also done readings at the Ivy Book Shop, Greenlight, Boswell, Harvard, Newtonville, and at the Asian American Writers' Workshop and the Asian American Book Festival in DC.
