They went door to door in Worcester and the surrounding area, collecting donations, and eventually bought an old house in nearby Shrewsbury. #3 In the early 1950s, America seemed staid and steadfast. The country had scarred the earth but also transformed it, offering the promise of a better, freer world. #4 Sanger was finally able to get the birth control pill, and it changed the world. But driving was another matter. It was a competitive sport with Pincus. His passengers were white-knuckle their armrests and ask why he was in such a hurry, but Pincus, utterly calm behind the wheel, thought little of it.
