Some weird virus. #2 I was sitting at home on campus preparing for my final exam when I heard Katherine gasping for air. I ran to her side and found her eyes black, with no trace of blue. She had been resuscitated, but she began vomiting again. I called 9-1-1. #3 The operator had me elevate Katherine’s legs on a chair, and as I was doing that, a swarm of EMT workers arrived at our house. They took Katherine to the hospital, and I sobbed uncontrollably. #4 I drove down the hill to leave campus, and as I did, I saw a law school friend walking to class. I screeched to a halt next to her, and tried to calmly yell that I would not be at class as Katherine was heading to the hospital. I floored it forward, bouncing on the campus speed bumps like a novice horseback rider.
